✨ Hangang Bitseom Festival 2026: Laser Art Lights Up Nodeul Island (Oct 2–11)

For ten nights this October, Nodeul Island (노들섬), the small island under Hangang Bridge in the middle of the Han River, turns into an open-air light gallery. The 2026 Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival (한강 빛섬축제, “Light Island Festival”) is themed “Rhapsody of Light”. It fills the island with large laser artworks, media art and live light-and-music shows, all free to walk into.

Organizers call it Korea’s largest waterfront laser art festival. It moves each year among the Han River’s six islands (Nanjido, Yeouido, Seonyudo, Nodeul, Seoraeseom and Ttukseom), and this year it’s Nodeul’s turn. The program is built around “Bitseom 3L”: Laser Art, Light of Companionship and Lecture.

What You’ll See

The official route loops around the island in about an hour at an easy pace. Start from the Hangang Bridge entrance and work west toward the big lasers at the tip, then come back along the south side.

  1. Bitseom: Path of Light (SUB 2): a lit walkway along the Hangang Bridge footpath leading onto the island.
  2. Garden of Memories (SUB 1): the first installation as you step off the bridge, beside the information desk.
  3. Pavilion of Light (SUB 3) and the indoor Nodeul Gallery exhibition.
  4. Live House (MAIN 3): multimedia shows pairing laser and projection with live music.
  5. Light-based art installations & light play: works by university students, plus the outdoor stage for Light of Companionship and the lectures.
  6. Firmamento (MAIN 2) by Italian duo Quiet Ensemble: waterside laser art reaching into the night sky.
  7. Multimmersion (MAIN 1-1) and PAMUN (“Ripple,” MAIN 1-2) by Taiwanese artist Akachang. These are the headline laser works at the island’s western tip, with beams sweeping across the river.
  8. Luminous Nodeul Willows (SUB 4) and Atelier Nodeul on the way back along the south side, past the food trucks and the cruise dock.

Special Nights (Oct 9–11)

  • Bitseom Lecture (Oct 9 & 10, 6:30–7 pm): quick-fire PechaKucha-style talks (20 slides × 20 seconds) on light, the cosmos and the future.
  • Lighting Fashion Show (Oct 9, 7–7:20 pm) by university fashion students.
  • Light of Companionship (동행라이트), Oct 9–11: celebrity performances combined with live charity fundraising. Oct 11 ends with the closing show (7:30–8:30 pm).

🇰🇷 K Local Tip
Come at about 5:30 pm. You’ll catch the end of the warm-up programs (running, yoga, outdoor reading, and a reenactment of King Jeongjo’s royal river procession), then watch the Han River sunset from the island’s west end. Stay in place as the lasers switch on at 6:30. Weeknights are far less crowded than Oct 3 and the weekends.

How to Get There

  • Subway: Nodeul Station (Line 9) Exit 2, then walk onto Hangang Bridge. It’s about 10 minutes, and the bridge walk at dusk is part of the fun.
  • Free shuttle bus (6–10 pm, every 15 min): Sinyongsan Stn Exit 4 → Nodeul Island → Nodeul Stn Exit 2 → Noryangjin Stn Exit 3.
  • By boat: a special river cruise runs between the Yeouido cruise terminal and Nodeul Island (3:30–10 pm; 4 sailings on weekdays, 8 on weekends). Cruise passengers park free all day at Yeouido Hangang Park.
  • Tap in with T-money or the Climate Card, and search “노들섬” in Naver Map.

Make a Night of It

  • Eat first in Noryangjin (the fish market is one stop away) or Ichon. Both neighborhoods offer festival-period discounts with Seoul’s local-brand card.
  • Bring a light jacket. It gets windy on the river after dark in October.
  • Tripod users: the bridge footpath gives the best wide shots of the lasers over the water.
